Hair loss often begins long before you’re “unwell”
Many clients come to us having already been told their blood test results are “normal.” But hair loss isn’t a disease — it’s a biological distress signal, and standard reference ranges are not designed to catch it. They exist to detect clinical illness — not suboptimal levels that affect hair growth and scalp health. That’s where our approach is different.
Why traditional blood tests miss the mark
GPs and dermatologists are trained to identify disease and disorders, not the metabolic subtleties that disrupt the hair growth cycle. That means:
- You could have a ferritin level that’s “within range” but too low to support active regrowth
- Your vitamin B12 or zinc may not be deficient enough for treatment — but still insufficient for the scalp to function optimally
- Inflammation, poor nutrient delivery, or hormone imbalance could be present but undetected through conventional interpretation
- Your vitamin D levels may be normal, but too low to support hair growth
- Your liver enzymes might only be slightly out of range, but high enough to affect hair health
We use blood work as a precision tool to uncover what’s really happening beneath your symptoms.
What we look for
Our interpretation focuses on optimal values for hair health — not just “normal” ranges. We review:
- Ferritin and iron stores
- Zinc, copper and B12 levels
- Vitamin D status
- Thyroid function (TSH, free T3, free T4)
- Sex hormones (testosterone, DHEA, SHBG, estrogen)
- Cortisol and stress response
- Inflammatory markers (CRP, homocysteine)
- Blood sugar and insulin resistance (HbA1c, fasting glucose)
- Protein status and liver function (total protein, albumin, ALT, AST)
Why it matters for hair growth
The hair follicle is one of the most metabolically active structures in the body. It requires a continuous supply of oxygen, nutrients, and hormonal stability to sustain the growth cycle. Even mild disruptions can result in:
- Prolonged shedding (telogen effluvium, postpartum hair loss, post-viral shedding)
- Delayed or incomplete regrowth (diffuse hair loss, post-chemotherapy, early scarring alopecias)
- Fragile, thinning strands (androgenetic alopecia, nutritional deficiencies, iron-related hair loss)
- Scalp inflammation and follicular congestion (seborrheic dermatitis, CCCA, inflammatory alopecia)
- Reduced follicular density over time (chronic telogen effluvium, undiagnosed PCOS, autoimmune conditions)
Understanding your internal profile gives us the power to intervene early — before these symptoms become harder to reverse.
How it works
- Blood Test Request or Review: We can review existing results or refer you for new panels.
- Functional Interpretation: We assess results through a trichological lens, comparing your values to optimal levels for hair health — not just disease prevention.
- Personalised Strategy: We design a treatment protocol that may include targeted supplementation, nutrition adjustments, lifestyle support, and clinical therapies.
You need more than “you’re within range”
Hair loss doesn’t wait for you to become sick enough to treat.
Our job is to catch what others overlook — and give your body the biological support it needs to regrow hair with clarity, precision, and confidence.
Bring your own test results — or let us arrange them
Whether you already have recent blood work or need a referral, we can support you.
- Already had tests done? Simply upload your test results after you fill in your intake form. You will be able to do this in your client portal. If your test results are on your NHS portal, please call your dpctors office, they will send you a PDF copy for easy sharing.
- Need testing? We can refer you for a private panel that covers all relevant biomarkers. Once your results are available, simply forward them to us and we’ll deliver your tailored plan.
